As taught in Reforge (highly recommend), there are 2 main kinds of growth loops: micro loop and macro loop.
A micro loop can be described as a standalone loop, centred around 1 core behaviour (e.g. user invite for a free ride). Where a macro loop combines a number of smaller loops (e.g. cross side network effect: when value from one type of user increases as more users of another type use the product).
In this instance, I’m keen to share the best (my favourite) micro loops found in the market.
Calendars
Clockwise - calendar assistant to free up day with focus time, by moving rescheduling your meetings. The more users > the more Focus Time calendar slots created in calendars > the more colleagues see the Clockwise focus time sessions > the more signups to Clockwise > repeat
Calendly - everyone knows them. The more users > the more calendar booking invites > the more Calendly links sent > the more new people witness Calendly’s value prop > the more signups > repeat
Watermarks
Tiktok - when people share videos on other social networks, the TikTok watermark remains, as well as, the username of owner. The more videos shared > the more views > the more downloads of Tiktok > the more videos watched/created > repeat
Ring - from Amazon, many videos posted across social (Twitter, Tiktok, FB etc) of interesting, spooky, funny, scary things caught on Ring camera. The more videos caught > the more shared > the more views > the more purchases of Ring by others > repeat
Collaboration
Figma - based on the pricing/packaging. Free package allows only 1 project but infinite collaborators. Therefore you get more project creators > more Figma links sent to non-Figma users > more value prop understood > more signups > repear
Asana - like Figma, this is primarily an internal loop. More users create a checklist > more assign to colleagues > more colleagues signup > repeat
Free stuff / incentivised
Robinhood - Super simple: free stock for referrals. The more users > the more referrals > the more free stock > repeat
